About Our Home Churches
If you are curious about belonging to a Home Church and you wonder how it works, here’s some info you may find helpful. Home Churches mean exciting new opportunities to participate in the growth of God’s Kingdom, while He grows us! The purpose of the Home Church Ministry at Donelson is to seek Jesus, share Him with each other, and reach out to those around us! In this setting, we can follow God’s greatest commands (Matthew 22:36-40) and His Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Here’s how the purpose becomes the process:
- Seek Jesus: We come together to seek Jesus, through studying God’s Word and prayer. We don’t just read the Bible; we let the Bible read us, and discuss ways to apply it to real life issues! As our vision states, followers of Jesus have a vital relationship with God. Home churches help us grow in our love for God.
- Share Jesus: When we come together in this way, God opens doors for us to develop more spiritually meaningful relationships with each other, starting within our own families, and then in mutual discipleship with one another. We encourage and exhort each other. We share each other’s sorrows and joys. We pray for each other, that God will empower us to live lives worthy of his calling. Our vision calls us to love each other as Jesus loved us—and home churches are a primary way we grow in loving relationships with other followers of Jesus.
- Reach Out: Born out of the natural process of seeking and sharing Jesus, we reach out in service to the community and touch the lives of those God places on our paths. Our vision calls us to love and serve the world as Jesus gave himself for the world. The love of Christ compels us to love people around us—people for whom Jesus died. Home Churches provide us with opportunities to serve and to encourage each other to live as ambassadors in the kingdom of God.
