What to Expect When You Visit Us
When you visit on a Sunday morning you will find a warm welcome and lots of friendly people. Our congregation is made up of people of all ages and from very diverse backgrounds. Because we are committed to guide what we do by the Bible, we try to worship in the simple, informal, encouraging way Christians in the Bible did.
The Message: We place a high priority on the Bible as the Word of God. We believe the Scriptures are our source of truth about God and the only reliable guide for how we should live. Each week we present a message which applies Biblical truths to everyday life.
The Singing: Like the first Christians, we sing a cappella (without instruments), choosing to emphasize and enjoy the simple beauty and harmony of human voices. We sing a blend of the great hymns of the past and the inspiring new songs of today. You’ll find it easy to join in singing if you choose, or you are welcome to just listen and think about what you hear.
The Lord’s Supper: The heart of Christian worship is the story of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. Each week we remember that story by sharing in the “Lord’s Supper” (a small wafer of bread and cup of grape juice). This simple meal was begun by Jesus Christ himself as a way for those who follow Him to regularly remember His death and resurrection. The Bible also calls the Lord's Supper a “communion” (or “sharing”) because eating it together reminds us that we are all part of God’s family.
The Offering: We give as part of our worship because giving is one way to express our commitment to God and our gratitude for what He has done for us. Like Christians in the Bible, we give freely whatever amount we choose. The offering is an opportunity for our members to support the work of our church. As a guest, please do not feel any need to give anything.
If you have children, you probably want to know what we have for your family. We have an excellent nursery during all our services and classes. During the service, children worship with their parents as we sing and take the Lord’s Supper. Then, when it’s time for the sermon, they leave for their own age-appropriate teaching time. Please visit the section of our website on “Youth and Children” for more information.
You may also be wondering, “Does it matter what I wear?” There is no “dress code” in our church. Most of our members dress casually. Some choose to wear something nicer (e.g., a coat and tie or dress). You will feel comfortable here no matter which you choose. (A simple rule of thumb might be to ask what you would or would not wear where you work.)
